I read a piece from Lens, the NYT photography blog, on Bill Cunningham. A documentary 10 years in the making , Bill Cunningham New York, opens the New Directors/New Films series today at the MoMa.
As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, I adore Mr. Cunningham. He’s a fantastic street-style photographer and very dedicated to his work, still going strong at 81. I was shooting at the same event he was shooting at once and I wanted to photograph him, so I asked. He said he was working and it would have to wait. Part of it may also have been his own reluctance to being photographed himself; he’s known to be a very private person. However, I did manage to get the shot to the left of him as he was leaving.
Anyway, I for one think he’s a rather interesting individual and imagine the documentary would provide a seldom seen peek into his life and career, which is certainly inspirational/aspirational.
