In Contrast

No doubt if you follow fashion you’ve heard

of Andrej Pejic, the androgynous male model

who poses in both men’s and women’s fashion editorials, and of late is covering the latest issue of Dossier. This got me thinking about something interesting I read about on Jezebel. Apparently high contrast faces appear more feminine. As an example, if you take a look at the below image, which picture is of a female, and which is of a male?

I, like most people, viewed the image on the left as female and the image on the right as male. In fact, they are the same image but the photo on the left is a higher contrast image. Anyhow, I found it interesting that simply changing the contrast in an image can alter our perception of someone’s gender in a photo.
