In May, the most expensive purchase to date of a photograph was sold to art dealer Phillipe Segalot in an auction at Christie’s here in NYC. The photo, Cindy Sherman‘s “Untitled #96,” sold for $3.89 million.
I wonder, what exactly makes one photo more or less valued than another? A number of factors I’m sure such as the artist, how rare the print is, how old it is and what it was originally made for are likely considered. Still, it’s interesting how much some pieces fetch at auction today.
